As Roma vs Reggina 3-0 , Serie A , week 3

The Wolf Back From The Death !

Roma were looking for their first victory of the season as they welcomed Reggina at the Stadio Olimpico. Coach Luciano Spalletti was still without captain Francesco Totti, so Mirko Vucinic filled the lone striker position, with Rodrigo Taddei, Alberto Aquilani, and Jeremy Menez behind him in Roma’s usual 4-2-3-1 formation. Meanwhile, Reggina coach Nevio Orlandi fielded a 4-4-1-1 line-up with Bernardo Corradi behind Davide Di Gennaro up front.

First Half

The early stages of the match were evenly balanced. In the 7th minute, midfielder Luca Vigiani tried his luck with a long range shot, and it almost gave Reggina a shock lead, as it went just past the post with goalkeeper Alexandre Doni beaten.

The first chance for the hosts came in the 13th minute, when Vucinic received the ball on the right flank and sent in a cross that was headed just over the bar by Matteo Brighi, who replaced the injured David Pizarro tonight.

Around the quarter hour mark Roma started to force Reggina more and more into their own penalty area, and in the 19th minute Menez played a dangerous ball into the box which was well cleared by Maurizio Lanzaro.

On the half hour mark, Aquilani played a great ball into the area for Menez, who dragged his shot well wide from an excellent position (31’).

Reggina responded in the 37th minute, when on a counterattack Corradi headed the ball back dangerously into the area, but it failed to find any of his team mates.

Menez wasted another chance for the home side in the 42nd minute, as De Rossi laid the ball on the path of the French striker, who couldn’t quite get a proper shot on goal as he was off balance.

One minute into injury time, however, Roma found a deserved goal through Christian Panucci, who once again found himself in the right place at the right time on a goalmouth scramble to poke the ball past Andrea Campagnolo (46’).

Second Half

For the second half Orlandi decided to replace Davide Di Gennaro with playmaker Franco Brienza. After a first half that was short on real chances, the second half saw two of them and a goal in the first five minutes.

In the 48th minute, Antonino Barillá tested Doni with a terrific long range strike, which stung the goalkeeper’s palms. Two minutes later, Menez did great to take the ball inside the area and pass it to Vucinic, who forced Campagnolo into a good save from a tight angle.

A minute after that, Aquilani gave Roma a 2-0 lead with a stunning long range drive that found its way to the top corner of the net, leaving Campagnolo without a chance.

After this goal Roma looked comfortable and just minutes later Panucci almost scored his brace as he headed a dangerous ball into the area, but he failed to find a team mate (54’).

The match started to slow down again around the hour mark after a frenzied start to the second half. In the 66th minute, however, the home side again came close to scoring as Vucinic was found by Menez, and the Montenegrin striker initially saw his shot blocked, before Campagnolo came up with a great save to deny him on the rebound.

Ten minutes before the end, Spalletti brought in Francesco Totti, who made his season debut and was welcomed by a boisterous applause from the crowd. A minute later, Corradi missed a glorious chance to get Reggina back into the match, as he fired a right footed shot that went just over the bar (80’).

In the 82nd minute, the Roma captain took a corner kick, and it almost led to Roma’s third goal as Panucci rose to head the ball, but it was well saved by Campagnolo.

In the last ten minutes, Reggina earnestly tried to keep on fighting, but could not create any more dangerous moves. Ultimately, it was the home side that found the net again in injury time, as substitute Simone Perrotta tapped the ball in from the close range after Campagnolo kept out a drive by Totti (93’).

Srigala Roma Bangkit Dari Kubur ! menang 3-0 atas Reggina

Susunan Pemain:
Roma: Doni; Cassetti, Panucci, Loria, Riise; De Rossi, Brighi; Taddei, Menez (Perrotta 69), Aquilani (Cicinho 87); Vucinic (Totti 78)
