Club Atlético de Madrid built on their UEFA Champions League triumph at PSV Eindhoven by winning 4-0 at the Estadio Vicente Calderón for the third time in as many matches, but RCD Espanyol continue to set the pace in La Liga after a 1-1 draw at home to Getafe CF.

Pesta tuan rumah sudah dimulai saat pertandingan baru berjalan sembilan menit melalui bintang mudanya Sergio Aguero. Setelah itu tuan rumah harus menunggu cukup lama untuk mencetak gol kedua yang baru datang di paruh kedua pertandingan.
Tepatnya di menit 52 Atletico baru bisa menggandakan keunggulan lewat Maniche. Sementara dua gol penutup tuan rumah datang dari Florent Sinama-Pongolle di menit 78 dan 89.
Hasil ini menaikkan posisi skuad besutan Javier Aguirre ke ututan dua klasemen dengan nilai enam. Sementara Recreativo masih berada di urutan 12 dengan poin terkumpul tiga.
