Blackburn vs Liverpool 1-3 Players Rating

BLACKBURN ROVERS

Robinson: 6.0- Made two great saves in the second half but was beaten three times in 26 minutes by Alonso, Benayoun and Gerrard respectively.

Warnock: 7.0- The ex-Liverpool man saved a potential goal with a vital sliding challenge on Benayoun in the 18th minute.

Samba: 6.0- Was a real menace in the air and gobbled up everything that came his way in the first half but was nowhere to be found on Liverpool’s last two goals.

Nelsen: 5.0- Will not be happy conceding three goals in the second half after a strong first 45 minutes.

Ooijer: 6.0- His flick on set up Santa Cruz’s goal to set up a nervy finish.

Emerton: 5.0- Will be disappointed with his performance tonight as he wasted some set pieces in the first half.

Andrews: 5.0- Picked up a yellow card late in the first half and was rendered ineffective after that.

Tugay: 6.0- The wise old man in the Blackburn midfield stood his ground battling the likes of Mascherano and Alonso.

Pederson: 7.0- Almost found his first goal of the season with a long distance piledriver that rattled the crossbar in the.

Derbyshire: 5.0- Was full of hustle but really did not muster up any scoring chances all this afternoon.

Santa Cruz: 7.0- Managed a goal today but it has been a season to forget thus far for the Paraguayan international.

SUBS: McCarthy (82”) 6.0, Vogel (84”) 6.0, Treacy (93”) NA

LIVERPOOL

Reina: 7.0- Was not tested very often today but made a wonderful save on Pederson in the first half while his defence let him down on Santa Cruz’s close range goal.

Insua: 7.0- The young Argentine defender made a rare start this afternoon but more than held his own on the left hand side

Hyypia: 8.0- He won some important challenges in the air today and turned back the years with an impressive performance.

Carragher: 7.0- His great challenge on Pederson at the start of the second half wiped out a dangerous scoring opportunity.

Arbeloa: 6.0- The Spanish right back managed to push forward with relative ease but more often than not the final product was poor.

Alonso: 8.0- Had a chance to open the scoring in the 56th minute but he could not direct his shot past Robinson. Made no mistake in the 68th with a delicately placed effort that found the bottom corner.

Mascherano: 6.0- The Argentine hard-man battled valiantly in the midfield trenches today and opened things up for Gerrard in the second half

Benayoun: 7.0- Struggled for much of the afternoon but popped up to score his team's second goal of the game with a nice low shot that beat Robinson.

Babel: 5.0- Switched flanks halfway into the first half but could not get anything going and was substituted early in the second half.

Gerrard: 7.0- The Liverpool captain rebounded from a poor first half to put the icing on the cake with a goal deep into injury time.

Kuyt: 7.0- Set up Benayoun’s goal with a pinpoint pass from long range and as usual was the hardest working man on the pitch.

SUBS: El Zhar (63”) 6.5, Lucas (83”) 6.0, Riera (87”) 7.0
