MANCHESTER UNITED
Van der Sar: 6.0-
Did not look convincing coming off his line but really had nothing to do between the posts today.
Evra: 6.5-
Gave away possession far too easily in the first half but rebounded with a good showing in the last 45 minutes.
Vidic: 6.5-
Could have had an undisturbed picnic at the back today in what was a relaxing afternoon.
Evans: 6.5-
The youngster made his second start of the season and looks like a keeper with his solid, steady play.
O’Shea: 6.0-
Looked shaky deputising for Gary Neville this afternoon as he almost headed Delap’s throw into his own net in the 11th minute.
Park: 7.0-
He was a bundle of energy down the flanks today was dangerous whenever he touched the ball.
Carrick: 8.0-
Took his goal extremely well as he blasted the ball past a helpless Sorensen in the 45th minute.
Fletcher: 7.0-
Flexed his muscles in the midfield and controlled the lanes in which Manchester United attacked through.
Ronaldo: 8.5-
Was fortunate that his first goal inexplicably went straight through Sorensen’s grasp to open up the scoring but his second was a real beauty. He was absolutely devastating from set pieces today.
Tevez: 7.0-
Failed to find a goal today although not through any lack of effort but his goal drought extends to seven matches.
Berbatov: 7.5-
A hint of handball on his goal in the 49th minute but did well to beat Sorensen at the near post.

STOKE CITY
Sorenson: 4.0-
A howler by the Stoke City goalkeeper gifted Man Utd’s first goal of the match and he never looked comfortable after that.
Abdoulaye Faye: 4.0-
His needless foul on Tevez led to Ronaldo’s goal early in the match and set the stage for United’s onslaught.
Shawcross: 5.0-
Was overrun by Berbatov and Tevez and was caught out of position on a regular basis.
Higginbotham: 5.0-
The former Man Utd trainee was second best all evening and had no answer for the Red Devils quick fire attack.
Griffin 5.0-
The captain was run ragged by Ronaldo all afternoon and failed to inspire his team when they fell a goal behind early in the game.
Amdy Faye: 5.0-
Lost the midfield battle to Fletcher and Carrick and will not be pleased with his performance.
Diao: 4.0-
Ballooned a shot over the crossbar from just outside of the area in the 10th minute when the match was still in reach.
Delap: 5.0-
A one trick pony who caused a problem or two in the first half but really is a below average midfielder at best.
Olofinjana: 5.0-
He never really got into the match and was substituted off in the 31st minute due to an injury.
Sidibe: 5.0-
He was anonymous for long stretches of the match and made no impression whatsoever.
Fuller: 5.0-
The Jamaican international was starved of service upfront and never really threatened the United goal.

Amr Zaki has been in imperious and emphatic form for Latic side Wigan Athletic, and Liverpool will have to be wary of the Egyptian threat.
Wigan glovesman Chris Kirkland may breathe a sigh of relief as key 'Pool striker Fernando Torres' absence was confirmed.
FIRST HALF
Chelsea thrashed Middlesbrough 5-0 earlier in the day so if Liverpool wanted to maintain their early pace with last year's league runners up then a home win would be mandatory.
The home side were searching for their fifth successive win, and were firm favourites for the tie, but there were distinct murmurs of an upset.
The opening fifteen minutes saw relative little action in either goals, but Albert Riera retained his promising form of late as he hugged the touchline and threatened from the wide areas.
Frenchman Kapo almost broke the deadlock 23 minutes. Reina was forced into a save that was pounced on by Kapo but reliable Jamie Carragher was there to block.
Six minutes later Amr Zaki took advantage of some confusion between Agger and Reina and the powerful Egyptian - likened to Alan Shearer - neatly slotted the ball home.
Liverpool begin to ease their way back into the game as the second half draws to a close and they finally find their equaliser when Agger - making amends for his earlier mistake that gifted Zaki a goal - set up Dirk Kuyt who smashed the ball into the net.
On the 44th minute Kirkland denies Kuyt a chance to give Liverpool the lead going into the break but only moments later Zaki scores an outrageous goal after good play from Valencia.
SECOND HALF
Riera begins the second half brightly and attempts to level the scoreline with a glanced header, but Titus Bramble is there to intercept.
Ten minutes later Zaki had the opportune moment to claim his first Premier League hat-trick but his strike fails to thwart Reina.
Gerrard was unusually quiet thus far in the game, especially considering these are the conditions that the scouse skipper usually thrives, and with just over 30 minutes remaining he tries a long drive but the ball is high and wide.
On the 72nd minute a Steven Gerrard free kick is whiskers away from the frame of the goal and Liverpool were getting closer and closer, but time was not on their side.
The home side were gifted a lifeline though as Valencia saw red for a second bookable offence as he lunged in on Alonso.
Then, five minutes later, the lively Riera capped his performance with a goal and for the first time in a Reds shirt he picked the ball out of the net and Liverpool looked good for their comeback.
Dirk Kuyt, often criticised for not scoring enough, sealed the win five minutes from time and the Latics, who had taken the lead twice, looked to go home empty handed.

Liverpool Raih kemenangan Tipis
Kemenangan atas Wigan ini membuat perolehan poin Liverpool tetap sama dengan Chelsea, yang beberapa jam sebelumnya memetik kemenangan besar 5-0 di kandang Middlesbrough.
Meski memperoleh poin yang sama, yaitu 20 angka dari delapan partai, Liverpool untuk sementara harus memberikan posisi puncak klasemen kepada Chelsea. Pertimbangannya, The Blues memiliki produktifitas gol yang lebih baik. Adapun Wigan harus turun ke posisi 14 dengan delapan poin.
Bertanding di Anfield, Sabtu (18/10) malam WIB, Liverpool mengakhiri babak pertama dalam posisi tertinggal 2-1. Adalah Amr Zaki yang membuat The Reds menanggung malu.
Liverpool sendiri tampil menekan sejak peluit dimulainya pertandingan dibunyikan. Sejumlah peluang didapat, beberapa di antaranya datang dari Albert Riera dan tendangan Xabi Alonso di menit 18, namun belum ada yang membuahkan hasil. Demikian juga bola hasil tembakan Dirk Kuyt yang masih mengenai mistar.
Wigan tak ketinggalan melakukan ancaman. Olivier Kapo sempat menguji keberuntungannya dengan melepas tendangan di menit 21. Namun Jose Reina masih sigap mengamankan gawangnya.
Baru di menit 29 usaha tim tamu membuahkan hasil. Zaki dengan sempurna memaksimalkan kegagalan Daniel Agger menyapu bola untuk mengecoh Reina, sekaligus membuat timnya memimpin 1-0.
Keunggulan tersebut tak bertahan lama setelah Kuyt berhasil menyamakan kedudukan di menit 36. Striker asal Belanda itu menggetarkan jala lawan usai menerima bola sodoran Agger.
Kuyt nyaris saja membuat Liverpool memimpin bila saja bola hasil tendangannya tidak ditepis Chris Kirkland dan hanya mengenai mistar. Malah tuan rumah berada dalam posisi tertinggal setelah Zaki, untuk kali kedua, menggetarkan jala Reina, kali ini melalui tendangan setengah salto, di menit 45.
Memasuki babak kedua, Liverpool meningkatkan daya gempurnya. Kondisi ini memaksa kubu Wigan menghalalkan segala cara untuk menghentikan alur serangan tim tuan rumah.
Imbasnya Antonio Valencia harus menerima dua kartu kuning, yang artinya ia harus meninggalkan lapangan, usai melakukan pelanggaran berbahaya kepada Xabi Alonso. Wigan pun bermain dengan 10 pemain sejak menit ke-74.
Keunggulan jumlah pemain dimanfaatkan dengan baik oleh kubu Liverpool. Dua gol tambahan pun bersarang ke gawang Kirkland, yang membuat pertandingan berkesudahan 3-2 untuk tuan rumah.
Gol penyama kedudukan dicetak oleh Riera di menit 80. Operan Nabil El Zhar dari dalam kotak penalti berhasil disambut pemain asal Spanyol itu dengan tembakan first time.
Lima menit kemudian Kuyt membalikkan keadaan usai memaksimalkan umpan silang Jermaine Pennant dengan tendangan saltonya. Sontak gol tersebut disambut sorak sorai pendukung Liverpool yang pada akhirnya tim kesayangan mereka menang dengan skor 3-2.

Arsenal handed a debut to Mikael Silvestre in a bid to correct their recent defensive woes while Theo Walcott was rested after a jading period. Alex Song started at right-back with Emmanuel Eboue on the right side of midfield.
Tim Cahill missed out again for the Toffees while the teenage Jack Rodwell was handed a start. Aiyegbeni Yakubu was the lone striker for the guests.
First Half
It did not take long for the reshuffled Arsenal rear-guard to become unstuck however, as only nine minutes had passed when Everton took an unlikely lead.
Steven Pienaar made space on the left side of the Arsenal box and rolled an inviting ball across the Gunners' defensive line. Leon Osman met the ball with a sliding effort to give Manuel Almunia no chance.
Osman almost doubled the guests' advantage ten minutes later as a sense of unease was felt around the Emirates. One point from six had left the north London faithful bemoaning a crisis in their ranks and the little Everton midfielder was close to giving them something else to groan about.
A shot from 20 yards was bottom corner-bound before Silvestre deflected the ball off target with the slenderest of deflections.
Arsenal grew in tempo and were a Joleon Lescott block away from levelling on 25 minutes. Samir Nasri was close to making significant contact with a shot before some brave defending from the England international denied the Frenchman a certain goal.
Emmanuel Adebayor was then booked for a shameless attempt at winning a penalty before the Toffees once again came on strong. Marouane Fellaini was denied on a one-on-one before Lescott's header from a corner was cleared from the line by Gael Clichy.
The Gunners' policy of short passing was failing to win them rewards, but Cesc Fabregas finally came to prominence. The Spaniard rifled a drive off target before swapping passes with Nasri and feeding a ball across the area, to no avail.
Second Half:
An injury to Kolo Toure meant that Emmanuel Eboue was shunted to right back, with Song playing in the centre, to accommodate the arrival of Theo Walcott from the bench.
Shortly after Almunia denied Yakubu a chance for 2-0, Samir Nasri equalised. His powerful drive from the edge of the box gave Tim Howard little chance in the Everton net.
Van Persie then flung a shot over the bar while off balance and Theo Walcott was beginning to come into his own. His threatening pace was making life uncomfortaable for a flat-footed Toffees' defence.
Arsenal went on top through the mid-portion of the second half, and were ahead with 20 minutes left in the tie. Adebayor declined the chance to shoot before prompting Fabregas who struck on target. His effort was repelled by Howard, who was helpless to prevent Van Persie plundering the rebound.
Louis Saha was thrown on by David Moyes in an attempt to rectify the situation, but Everton's 12 year hoodoo against the Gunners was to continue.
Abou Diaby pulled the ball back to the game-changing Walcott in injury time who wrapped up the points for the Gunners. Back to winning ways.

Arsenal Balik Dari Kematian, Menang 3-1 Atas Everton..
Arsenal yang gagal meraih poin penuh di dua laga terakhir mereka menemukan kembali permainan terbaiknya, meski sempat tertinggal lebih dahulu di babak pertama.
Kemenangan atas Everton pun membuat perolehan poin The Gunners bertambah tiga, menjadi 16 dari delapan laga. Untuk sementara Arsenal menempati posisi ketiga, unggul dua poin dari Hull City yang baru akan melakoni laga kedelapan mereka besok. Sementara Everton tertahan di papan bawah dengan tetap mengantongi poin delapan.
Meski kalah, Everton tampil memikat di laga ini, setidaknya di babak pertama. Bahkan kengototan mereka membuahkan hasil.
The Toffes bisa langsung memimpin lewat gol Leon Osman. Penyerang Everton itu berhasil mengecoh Manuel Almunia setelah mampu memaksimalkan umpan kiriman Steven Pienaar di menit sembilan.
Gol tersebut melecut semangat skuad besutan Arsene Wenger. Serangan pun dibangun dan berujung pada terciptanya peluang sesaat setelah kebobolan. Adalah Robin Van Persie yang memiliki kesempatan menyamakan kedudukan bila saja tendangannya di menit 16 mampu menundukkan Tim Howard yang tampil solid di bawah mistar gawang Everton.
Van Persie kembali mendapat peluang di menit 29. Namun lagi-lagi ia gagal menyamakan kedudukan setelah tendangannya hanya melintas di atas mistar.
Baru di babak kedua Arsenal bisa menyamakan kedudukan. Samir Nasri menjadi penyama skor lewat tendangan kerasnya dari luar kotak penalti di menit 48.
Van Persie lagi-lagi menyia-nyiakan kesempatan yang dimilikinya di menit 55. Namun usahanya akhirnya membuahkan hasil di menit 70 setelah ia mampu menuntaskan peluang yang didapat Cesc Fabregas dengan sundulannya.
Theo Walcott akhirnya menutup pertandingan dengan golnya di menit 90, sekaligus mengamankan tiga poin di Emirates Stadium.

Manchester United took to the pitch against West Brom knowing a win was required to keep pace with title rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool after all three had claimed maximum points earlier in the day.
Yet Ferguson’s men began the game in strangely sluggish style at a subdued Old Trafford. The champions looking flat and unable to get their passing game going against a durable West Brom side.
It wasn’t until mid-way through the first half that the champions began to even remotely threaten Scott Carson in the West Brom goal. Yet when they did, they almost opened the scoring.
Cristiano Ronaldo out on the left, fed Wayne Rooney a cute ball into the box. The England striker beat Olsson before cutting inside and finishing well past Carson.
However, referee Mark Halsey ruled the effort out, deeming Rooney to have pushed Olsson in the build up to the goal, much to the striker’s frustration.
The effort raised United slightly from their torpor and within minutes Rooney had almost made amends. A near post header was directed down and on target but Carson parried well and the danger was averted.
Whilst United continued to press they were lacking their usual verve and were frustrated by a solid West Brom, who were containing the home side well although offering little in the way of an attacking threat.
Yet within five minutes of the restart it was Rooney again testing Carson. Substitute O’Shea managed to find his striker on the edge of the box and a fierce shot was well saved by the Albion stopper.
However, the in-form striker was not to be denied for long and within ten minutes of the restart United were ahead.
Released down the left flank by Ronaldo he homed in on goal, beating Donk before despatching a low shot inside Carson’s right hand post for a deserved goal.
He almost grabbed a second less than five minutes later. Ryan Giggs played him in and Rooney hit it first time but Carson was equal to the effort, diving low to his left to tip the ball around the post.
Denied by Carson, Rooney then turned creator, receiving the ball from Fletcher before sliding the ball through to Ronaldo. The Portuguese winger sprinted clear before slipping the ball first time between Carson’s legs to double the home side’s lead.
The goals seemed to flatten West Brom who had held out for so long and within minutes of Ronaldo’s goal they had conceded once again.
Nani, who had replaced Park, crossed in from the left and with the Albion defenders standing off the ball it fell to Berbatov who instinctively stuck out a leg to prod it home from close range.
The Portuguese then got his name on the scoresheet in the last minute to add the gloss to a convincing victory. Berbatov released Rooney on the right and his low cross was converted at the far post by Nani for United's fourth.

Sayang, 45 menit babak pertama, semangat ini tidak dibuktikan dengan permainan cantik di tengah lapangan hijau. Penonton disuguhkan tendangan-tendangan datar, passing meleset dan sebagainya. Gol pun tidak tercipta di menit-menit tersebut.
Kebuntuan terpecahkan setelah sepuluh menit berselang dari dimulainya babak kedua. Kerja sama antara Cristiano Ronaldo (foto, kanan) dan Wayne Rooney (foto, kiri) berhasil mengecoh kiper Bromwich.
13 menit berselang, kerja sama dua bintang MU tersebut kembali memaksa Carson memungut bola dari jala gawangnya sendiri. Kali ini Ronaldo yang berhasil melakukan finishing akhir.
Berbatov dan Nani tidak mau ketinggalan pesta, masing-masing mengemas gol pada menit ke-71 dan 90. Kemenangan besar ini semakin sempurna lantaran kiper Van der Sar bermain bersih tanpa kebobolan.
Dengan demikian, Manchester United berhasil membuntuti Chelsea, Liverpool, dan Arsenal di posisi empat, dengan mengantongi 14 poin, terpaut enam poin dari pimpinan sementara.

The four boys in front of him let him down, badly. Constant defensive gaffes gifted Chelsea possession and their attacks more often than not led to a goal. Kept a strong hand to palm away an Anelka shot.

Needs to re-learn the classic book: Defence For Dummies. Was replaced on the hour mark for Johnson. Gave away possession far too frequently.
Wheater: 5.5 -
His breakthrough season last year is a thing of the past. This defence needed a leader, and neither he, nor Riggott, possessed the necessary skills to impose themselves.
Riggott: 5.5 -
Poor communication with Wheater could have granted Chelsea even more goals than they had already been gifted.
Taylor: 4.5 -
His poor clearance led to Chelsea's fourth goal. Deserves a dressing down.
Johnson: 5.5 -
Middlesbrough's midfield was off form, but alas not as collectively bad as the side's shambolic defence. Got forward okay...
O'Neil: 5.0 -
Broke up one passage of Chelsea play well but struggled in a midfield battle against a Blues side that was far from full strength.
Shawky: 5.5 -
Began a few decent counter attacks but by the time he played a give and go Chelsea would have tracked back and their forward play would be rumbled.
Downing: 6.5 -
Tried to turn the game but he was always facing a losing battle. One good strike with his unfavoured right foot to note, but it fizzed over the bar. A botched free kick with Afonso Alves summed up 'Boro's afternoon.

Tried hard to penetrate but was impotent for 90 minutes.

CHELSEA
Cudicini: 6.5 -
Was hardly called upon. Could have brought some sandwiches with him onto the pitch and had a mid match snack while enjoying the flow in front of him, but sensibly elected not to.
Bosingwa: 7.5 -
Answered some of his critics claims today that while his attacking prowess is something to marvel, his defensive duty is suspect. Enjoyed a battle with Downing that he emerged on top of time after time. Tackled well.
Terry: 7.0 -
For someone that was supposedly injured midweek his recovery times are outstanding. Was provided with the perfect run out prior to the midweek Champions League clash.
Alex: 7.0 -
Blocked well but with Middlesbrough only having one shot on target of note his main duty was to provide a link to the midfield and maintain possession.
Bridge: 7.5 -
Got forward well, and in the absence of Ashley Cole has proved for both club and country that he can make the position his own. Chelsea are spoiled for choice for full backs.
Belletti: 8.0 -
Manufactured Cheslea's second goal out of nothing and to turn the game. One for the replays.
Lampard: 8.0 -
Started out quiet, but his range of passing was sound. And, just as you think he hasn't enjoyed as many shots on goal as he is accustomed to, he pops up to round off a well worked goal.
Mikel: 7.0 -
Was initially sloppy in possession and gave pointless balls away, but grew into the game well along with his team-mates.
Kalou: 8.5 -

The Blues Gilas Boro Lima Gol Tanpa Balas...
The Blues melanjutkan performa positifnya di pekan kedelapan. Bahkan pasukan Luiz Felipe Scolari mampu mencuri tiga angka penuh dengan cara yang elegan, yaitu mempermalukan tuan rumah Middlesbrough 5-0.
Hasil tersebut memantapkan posisi Chelsea di puncak klasemen sementara Liga Primer dengan 20 poin, unggul tiga angka dari Liverpool yang hingga berita ini diturunkan masih akan meladeni Wigan Athletic di Anfield.
Adapun Middlesbrough tertahan di posisi 12, tetap dengan sembilan poin. Posisi pasukan Gareth Southgate itu juga terancam tergeser bila Wigan, Sunderland, Everton maupun Bolton Wanderers memenangi laga mereka hari ini.
Pesta gol Chelsea dimulai di paruh kedua, dengan gol pembuka tercipta di babak pertama. Adalah Salomon Kalou yang membuat tim tamu memimpin di menit 14, memanfaatkan kemelut di depan gawang Ross Turnbull.
Meski berstatus sebagai tim tamu, Chelsea tampil layaknya tuan rumah dengan terus menekan pertahanan Middlesbrough. Sejumlah peluang sempat tercipta, di antaranya lewat tendangan Kalou di menit 20, sontekan Frank Lampard beberapa menit kemudian dan sepakan Florent Malouda di menit 31. Akan tetapi hingga turun minum tak ada gol tambahan tercipta.
Baru di babak kedua Chelsea mengamuk. Juliano Belletti menjadi pencetak gol kedua The Blues di pertandingan ini, usai memanfaatkan bola sodoran Malouda di menit 51. Tendangan kerasnya menghujam tajam di sudut gawang Turnbull.
Dua menit berselang, nama Kalou kembali muncul di papan skor setelah ia berhasil menyarangkan bola ke gawang Middlesbrough melalui tendangan dari dalam kotak penalti.
Lampard tak ketinggalan menjebol gawang Turnbull. Ia sukses memaksimalkan umpan lambung Kalou dengan kepalanya di menit 63 untuk menjadikan skor menjadi 4-0.
Malouda akhirnya menutup pesta gol Chelsea di pertandingan ini dengan sontekannya, memanfaatkan bola rebound tendangan Nicolas Anelka yang masih mengenai mistar. Hingga peluit panjang dibunyikan, skor 5-0 bertahan dan Chelsea keluar sebagai pemenang.

The pre-match hype had surrounded Paul Ince taking on his former side and Sir Alex Ferguson certainly had a surprise up his sleeve for the Rovers boss.
Wayne Rooney, taken off in midweek through injury, was in the starting lineup as the champions sought to take three points from Ewood Park for only the second time in eight visits.
Yet the visitors started sloppily and Rovers certainly had the better of the opening half an hour.
Whilst Vidic came close from a corner for United early on it was Matt Derbyshire who really should have opened the scoring.
Brett Emerton caught the United defence napping with an intelligent pass which Derbyshire ran onto before hitting a lot shot across the goalkeeper Van der Sar. The Dutchman could only parry his effort but fortunately for him Ferdinand was on hand to clear the danger ahead of the incoming Santa Cruz.
The chance sparked the champions who came close at the other end. Berbatov sliding in Darren Fletcher whose drilled shot across goal was inches wide.
As the visitors grew into the game a sense of foreboding began to fall around a rain-soaked Ewood Park.
Just before the half hour some slick passing by the Red Devils culminated in Berbatov squaring the ball to Giggs whose shot was fingertipped superbly onto the bar by goalkeeper Brown.
It was to prove only a momentary reprieve for Ince’s men however. Minutes later a short corner by United fell to Rooney whose cross to the far post was nodded in by Wes Brown.
His namesake in the Rovers goal howled his protests and replays showed Vidic jumping with the Blackburn keeper may have committed a foul but referee Steve Bennett waved the complaints away.
Yet from then on Ince could have few objections over the scoreline as United took full control. With ten minutes to go before half time Rooney had the chance to double his side’s lead after being put through in the area.
The England striker attemped to dink it over Brown but the goalkeeper recovered well to keep the deficit down to one.
Right on half time it was Ronaldo’s turn. Patrice Evra haring down the left wing found Ronaldo close to goal but the Portugese transpired to mis-hit his shot wide.
The second half became something of a procession for the visitors and with Santa Cruz hobbling off injured for the home side, the situation looked bleak.
It was to prove the case and just after the hour mark United doubled their lead. A break for United found Ronaldo running at Olsson on the right.
The Portuguese winger simply flew past the the left black and picked out Rooney who made no mistake firing it past Brown to give the champions a deserved 2-0 lead.
From then on it was simply a question of how many United might score as they completely dominated the game against a beleagured Rovers.
Rooney came close, dinking a lob over the bar before Berbatov was denied by the quick thinking of Brown, rushing out of his goal to deny the Bulgarian.
However, it was substitute Tevez who came the closest of all. The Argentinean firing a low shot against the post after being set up by Ronaldo.
In the end the champions failed to extend their lead but Ferguson will depart Ewood Park pleased with the performance and delighted with a rare three points snared from Blackburn, much to Ince’s dismay.

Setan Merah rebut kemenangan 2-0 atas BlacburnHasil sempurna didapat Manchester United dari lawatannya ke Blackburn Rovers. Lewat gol Wes Brown dan Wayne Rooney, The Red Devils memetik kemenangan 2-0.
Inilah kemenangan ketiga MU sepanjang musim ini di Premiership. Tambahan tiga poin yang membawa skuad besutan Sir Alex Ferguson melonjak lima peringkat ke posisi enam klasemen sementara dengan nilai 11.
Buat Blackburn kekalahan ini merupakan sebuah langkah mundur mengingat di dua pertandingan Liga Inggris sebelumnya mereka sukses menundukkan Fulham dan Newcastle United. Posisi skuad besutan Paul Ince di klasemen sementara pun turun satu anak tangga ke posisi sembilan dengan nilai delapan.
Jalannya Pertandingan
Peluang matang pertama dalam laga yang dilangsungkan di Edwood Park, Sabtu (4/10/2008) malam WIB tersebut baru datang di menit 16 dan mengarah ke gawang MU. Edwin van der Sar harus berjibaku mengamankan gawangnya dari sepakan keras Matt Derbyshire, bola yang tak sempurna diamankan kipper Belanda itu hampir saja disambar Roque Santa Cruz namun barisan belakang MU bergerak cepat membuangnya dari kotak penalti.
Di menit 20 Darren Fletcher membuang peluang membawa timnya unggul. Lolos dari jebakan offside dan tinggal berhadapan dengan kiper Jason Brown, bola yang diarahkan gelandang 24 tahun itu ke tiang jauh melenceng tipis dari bidang sasaran.
Sebuah peluang lain dimiliki MU melalui sepakan kaki kiri Ryan Giggs yang menerima umpan silang mendatar Dimitar Berbatov. Namun tak ada gol dari prosesi tersebut karena Jason Brown dengan gemilang menepis bola yang mengalir deras dan mengarah tepat ke gawangnya.
Namun semenit berselang gawang Blackburn akhirnya benar-benar jebol, adalah Wes Brown yang mencatatkan namanya di papan skor saat mengarahkan bola crossing dari sisi kiri ke dalam gawang dengan kepalanya. Gol ini diprotes kiper Jason Brown yang merasa dirinya dilanggar Nemanja Vidic saat berusaha menggapai bola silang tersebut.
Unggul satu gol membuat permainan MU lebih mengalir. Peluang lain pun didapat Rooney yang lolos dari jebakan offside, namun hingga turun minum skor 1-0 tak berubah karena sepakan Rooney terbaca dengan baik oleh kiper Jason Brown saat mereka berhadapan satu lawan satu.
Tak banyak peluang tercipta di menit-menit awal babak kedua. Peluang awal membobol gawang kembali dimiliki MU melalui Cristiano Ronaldo yang meneruskan umpan Berbatov, namun sepakan CR7 dari jarak sekitar 18 meter melebar.
Tim tamu akhirnya mampu menggandakan keunggulan di menit 63 melalui kerjasama yang terbangun dengan rapi. Diawali umpan Brown pada Ronaldo di sisi kanan, winger gesit itu memenangi adu sprint dengan bek lawan, umpan mendatarnya di dalam kotak penalti disambut Wayne Ronney dengan sepakan keras yang bersarang di pojok kanan atas gawang Blackburn.
Sepuluh menit berselang dua peluang lain dikreasikan MU. Namun keduanya gagal menambah jumlah gol: sepakan Rooney melayang tipis di atas mistar sementara tendangan Berbatov masih bisa diblok kipper Brown dengan kakinya.
Nyaris tak ada peluang matang dikreasikan skuad besutan Paul Ince dalam pertandingan babak kedua ini. Sementara MU terus menggedor pertahanan tuan rumah, termasuk tendangan melengkung Carlos Tevez di menit 86 yang cuma membentur tiang gawang.
Tak ada gol tambahan tercipta membuat pertandingan berakhir dengan skor 2-0 untuk keunggulan tim tamu.

Fabregas Save Arsenal In Last Minutes
It is almost a year ago to the day when Arsenal and Sunderland met for their first league meeting in 2007-08. The venue though was Emirates, and in a similar vein to the summer humdrum and falsely fruited predictions of this year, the Gunners were supposedly going to lose their top four position to hated neighbours Tottenham Hotspur.
Arsenal though marched on to a 3-2 victory that day, and the three points signified their tenth win (in all competitions), on the spin. What they would do for that consistency now.
Arsenal are erratic. Losing 1-0 to Fulham at the Craven Cottage: looking forlorn; disjointed; and uninterested. Then beating teams like Newcastle; Bolton; and Blackburn by a convincing margin, only to get turned over by Hull at home.
Even Clichy confirmed that Arsenal were guilty of not taking their opponent seriously; an arrogance that could prove costly.
Roy Keane's mackems are a bolstered prospect one year on, and have the comfort of playing in front of a home crowd. Depending on the Arsenal that turn up, the Black Cats could strut away, roaring into the distance, ecstatic with all three points... or they could limp off the pitch, defeated, dejected, with their tails between their legs.
FIRST HALF
It was a typical northern encounter on Wearside as wet and windy conditions had a direct effect on the afternoon's play as both teams took a while feeling each other out and there were a few scrappy exchanges throughout the first ten minutes, but nothing penetrative.
Roy Keane would have been the more contented of managers with the early manner of his side's play and Djibril Cisse was unfortunate not to have taken the lead.
A poor Theo Walcott back pass was pounced on by Cisse but alert Manuel Almunia was quick to foil the threat. Two minutes later Cisse was again on the attack and lashed a ball goalward but Arsenal's Spanish stopper beat the ball over the bar.
When Arsenal were in possession Sunderland sat back and soaked up the pressure, standing off their man but snuffing out any potential threat. Roy Keane has clearly taken heed of Phil Brown's successful tactic last weekend when the Tigers left the Emirates with all three points.
The chances Arsenal do make though were spoilt by either wayward shooting, or poor decision making, and Theo Walcott was at the heart of both mistakes.
The visitors went into the break with the greater share of possession, and a late strike from Denilson that skipped inches wide of the post could have stolen a lead for the Gunners, but as half-time crept closer the scoreline remained deadlocked.
SECOND HALF
The first 15 minutes of the second half maintained the motif of the first half as Arsenal's passing play was frustratingly spoiled by misplaced final balls.
Theo Walcott, who was largely ineffective all game, was replaced by big Danish centre forward Nicklas Bendtner as Arsene Wenger tried to force the game.
Arsenal had the ball in the net on the hour mark as Theo Walcott sent a ball into the six yard box that Van Persie finished off, but the goal was struck off the record as Walcott was deemed to have taken the ball into touch prior to his cross.
Inside the final 20 minutes though a goal seemed increasingly likely as both sides threw more forward when attacking. Samir Nasri could have broken the stalemate after some sound combining play from Emmanuel Adebayor and Cesc Fabregas fed through the former Marseille midfielder, but the Frenchman's shot was too weak to trouble Craig Gordon.
Against all the predictions Sunderland took the lead from a powerful Grant Leadbitter shot and Arsenal conceded a second wonder-strike for the second week running.
The Gunners saved face though, and ensure the points were shared, when a Van Persie corner was headed home by a delighted Cesc Fabregas three minutes deep into stoppage time.

Arsenal kembali menelan hasil mengecewakan setelah cuma bermain imbang dengan Sunderland 1-1. Cesc Fabregas menjadi pahlawan The Gunners dengan golnya di masa injury time.
Hasil imbang atas Sunderland ini melanjutkan penampilan buruk Arsenal di Premiership dalam dua pekan terakhir. Di laga sebelumnya mereka bahkan takluk oleh tim promosi Hull City dengan skor 1-2 saat berlaga di kandang sendiri.
Hasil imbang ini tak mengubah posisi Arsenal di urutan tiga klasemen sementara dengan poin 13 dari tujuh laga yang sudah dilalui. Namun karena sebagaian besar tim lain belum bertanding posisi skuad besutan Arsene Wenger bisa turun ke urutan enam.
Buat Sunderland tambahan satu poin tak mendongkrak posisi mereka dari urutan 14 klasemen dengan poin delapan.
Jalannya Pertandingan
Di awal laga Sunderland memang mampu memberikan perlawanan yang cukup ketat. Kiper Arsenal Manuel Almunia sudah harus berkerja keras di babak pertama untuk menggagalkan usaha Djibril Cisse.
Sementara tekanan terus dilakukan oleh skuad besutan Roy Keane ini. Di menit ke-7, sebuah usaha Dean Whitehead dengan memberikan passing kepada Steed Malbranque. Namun Kolo Toure lebih dulu menggagalkannya dengan melakukan tekel.
Cisse kembali mengancam gawang Arsenal namun Almunia masih dapat menggagalkannya di menit ke-15. Ancaman masih terus dilakukan oleh striker asal Prancis ini namun lagi Almunia masih dapat menepis bola tersebut ke atas gawang.
Meski demikian hingga turun minum tetap belum ada gol tercipta. Di babak kedua tekanan mulai dilancarkan oleh Arsenal. Pada menit ke-56 Robin van Persie mampu mencetak gol namun asisten wasit menganulir gol tersebut.
Tekanan terus dilancarkan Arsenal. Bendtner memberikan bola kepada Van Persie dan diteruskan langsung dengan tendangan volleynya. Namun kiper Craig Gordon mampu melakukan penyelamatan gemilang menggagalkan peluang tersebut.
Namun, justru Sunderland yang berhasil unggul lebih dulu di menit ke-86 lewat tendangan keras Grant Leadbitter. Tentu aja Arsenal yang sempat mendominasi pertandingan segera menambah tekanannya.
Hasilnya di akhir pertandingan Fabregas berhasil menyelamatkan Arsenal dari kekalahan. Gol tersebut berawal dari sepak pojok Van Persie dan diteruskan oleh Fabregas dengan sundulan kepalanya.

Arsenal Lose The Crown, Beat Up by Surprising Hull City
Arsenal’s youngsters had stolen the headlines all week, and rightly so, for their 6-0 Carling Cup demolition job of Sheffield United. However, Phil Brown and Hull City would have noted, rather ominously, that none of the Carling Cup side made it into the starting lineup for today’s game against Hull.
Yet despite having restored his first team, Arsene Wenger’s side struggled against their newly promoted opponents and endured a frustrating first half which ended goalless despite the home side’s best efforts.
Instead, a profligate Gunners reverted to their old ways, overplaying the ball when often well-placed whilst the visitors defended stubbornly and with a confidence borne of their strong start to the season.
Keeping with the general theme of the week, it was one of Arsenal’s youngest players who had the best chances of the first half.
Theo Walcott had several opportunities to open the scoring for the Gunners but a combination of excellent defending and wanting too much time on the ball denied the young Englishman.
Whilst the Gunners dominated possession and carved out some excellent opportunities they rarely threatened Myhill in the Tigers goal and a frustrated Arsene Wenger could only watch on in dismay.
However, whilst the first half was largely disappointing fare, the second period sparked into life within minutes of the restart with Hull almost taking the lead. The Gunners failed to clear a corner and a speculative shot from Boateng was saved almost on the line by Fabregas’ outstretched leg.
The chance spurred Arsenal into life and less then five minutes they were ahead, albeit through the scrappiest of goals.
Van Persie played Walcott in on the break and he bamboozled several Hull defenders before a low cross was deflected off Adebayor into the path of a combination of Fabregas and McShane who bundled it into the net.
Minutes later and it should have been two. Van Persie set up Eboue but his attempted back heel was deflected into the path of Adebayor, who, with the goal at his mercy, took too much time, and his shot was well defended and deflected high and wide by the Hull defence.
With a lead established Arsenal threatened to overwhelm Hull who were left rocking by the home side’s change in tempo yet they held firm and to the dismay of the home crowd hit back in stunning style.
Geovani put them level on the hour mark, leaving Arsenal to rue their missed chances. A stunning strike from the Brazilian from out on the left, swerved and dipped into the top corner leaving Almunia absolutely no chance and putting the sides back on level terms
Only minutes later and Hull were in dreamland. A corner in from the right found Cousin outjumping Gallas and his header flew over Fabregas on the post and into the back of the net.
A shocked Wenger responded quickly, throwing on Bendtner and Vela as Arsenal pressed forwards searching for an equaliser.
Van Persie came close after being put through by Fabregas but Gallas came even closer, his header coming off the bar and hitting Vela but falling wide. Myhill then tipped over a fine strike from Fabregas in stoppage time as Hull held on for a famous victory to continue their fantastic start to life in the top flight.
Arsenal, meanwhile, fabulous in midweek, trudged off at the final whistle thoroughly dejected leaving Arsene Wenger, who having just his watched his dislodged from the top of the table and conceding again from a set piece, with much to ponder.

Arsenal Kehilangan Tahta, Dihajar Hull 2-1 dikandang Sendiri
Arsenal harus menelan pil pahit. Bertanding di kandang sendiri, mereka malah takluk dari tim berstatus promosi, Hull City, dengan skor 1-2. Hasil ini sekaligus membuat mereka kehilangan posisi tertinggi di klasemen sementara.
Bermain di hadapan pendukung sendiri, Stadion Emirates Stadium, Minggu (28/9/2008) dinihari WIB, Arsenal langsung mengambil inisiatif menguasai permainan. Dengan mengandalkan operan-operan pendek bertempo cepat seperti biasa, beberapa kali pasukan Arsene Wenger sempat mengancam gawang Hull.
Hull sendiri bukannya tanpa perlawanan. Mereka akhirnya bisa keluar dari tekanan pada babak kedua, dan meski sempat teringgal lebih dulu oleh gol bunuh diri Paul McShane, mereka akhirnya bisa membalikkan keadaan lewat kaki Geovanni dan sundulan Daniel Cousin.
Pertandingan pun ditutup dengan kemenangan 2-1 untuk Hull. Bagi Arsenal, ini merupakan kekalahan kedua mereka musim ini setelah sebelumnya takluk di tangan Fulham Agustus lalu. Hasil ini sekaligus membuat mereka harus merelakan tiga kemenangan berurutan mereka akhirnya terputus. Yang lebih menyesakkan, tentu saja, posisi pemuncak klasemen kini harus berpindah tangan ke rival sekota mereka, Chelsea.
Adapun bagi Hull, kemenangan ini membuat posisi mereka naik ke posisi enam dengan torehan nilai 11 dari hasil tiga kemenangan, tiga hasil seri, dan satu kekalahan.
Jalannya Pertandingan
14 menit pertandingan berjalan The Gunners mendapat peluang melalui sepakan Cesc Fabregas. Namun, tendangan dari jarak sekitar 16 meter itu masih menyamping di sisi gawang Hull yang dikawal olej Boaz Myhill.
Semenit kemudian, gawang Myhill bobol melalui sundulan Emmanuel Adebayor. Tetapi, gol tersebut dianulir karena Adebayor dianggap telah lebih dulu melakukan pelanggaran terhadap Paul McShane yang mengawalnya.
Hull sempat membalas di menit 24. Berawal dari operan Daniel Cousin, Geovanni melepaskan tendangan keras dari luar kotak penalti. Namun, tendangannya belum menemui sasaran karena masih melambung di atas mistar gawang Manuel Almunia.
Lima menit menjelang akhir babak pertama, Emmanuel Eboue mencoba peruntungannya untuk membobol gawang Hull. Usai melakukan sedikit tusukan di luar kotak penalti, ia kemudian melepaskan tendangan kaki kiri. Sial baginya, sepakannya itu masih melenceng tipis di sisi kanan gawang Myhill. Hingga babak pertama berakhir belum ada satu gol pun tercipta.
Arsenal akhirnya membuka keunggulan pada menit 50. Berawal dari solo run Theo Walcott yang menggiring bola hingga ke dalam kotak penalti, bola kemudian disodorkan ke depan gawang Hull. Bola kemudian sempat memantul kaki Adebayor sebelum akhirnya diteruskan Cesc Fabregas ke arah gawang dan mengenai kaki McShane. "Si Kulit Bundar" akhirnya memang sempat disapu oleh seorang pemain Hull, namun terlambat karena ia sudah melewati garis gawang. 1-0 Arsenal memimpin.
Namun, keunggulan sang tuan rumah itu hanya bertahan hingga menit ke-62. Akibat gagal mengantisipasi gerakan Geovanni di luar kotak penalti, Arsenal harus membayar gawangnya dibobol oleh gelandang Hull itu. Gol yang tercipta pun terbilang indah karena Geovanni melepaskan tendangan melengkung ke tiang jauh dan tak mampu dijangkau Almunia.
Tak sampai lima menit, tepatnya pada menit 66, Almunia harus rela gawangnya kembali dibobol. Kali ini melalui cara yang terbilang text book, yakni melalui sepak pojok. Corner kick yang dilepaskan Andy Dawson sukses disundul Daniel Cousin ke tiang jauh dan membalikkan kedudukan menjadi 2-1 untuk keunggulan Hull.
Enam menit menjelang akhir pertandingan, William Gallas nyaris menyamakan kedudukan. Sundulannya di dalam kotak penalti hanya bisa membentur mistar gawang Hull. Bola muntah tersebut lantas mengenai kaki Carlos Vela. Tetapi, bukannya bergulir ke dalam gawang, bola malah meluncur ke luar lapangan. Hingga laga berakhir, skor 2-1 untuk keunggulan Hull tetap tak berubah.

Ro and Roon Score for The Red Devil
Cristiano Ronaldo marked his return to the Manchester United first-team with a goal-scoring performance, although there were some doubts about the legitimacy of the awarded penalty kick that gave his side the lead.
Jlloyd Samuel appeared to play the ball as Ronaldo attacked him in the box, but the Portuguese fell under pressure from the Bolton defender.
Ronaldo dusted himself down and converted the kick to break stubborn Trotters resistence as Rob Styles made a debateable call from Bolton's perspective.
To that point, the guests' 4-5-1 had stifled United's quest for a goal, with the first half's best opportunity going to Fabrice Muamba of Bolton. The England under-21 international somehow fired of-target with the goal at his mercy.
Alex Ferguson's side enjoyed the lion's share of the chances in the opening period, but could not force the Bolton door down with Jussi Jaaskelainen in tremendous form in goal.
He saved smartly from Dimitar Berbatov, Ronaldo and Anderson in the first half to shut out the Champions, but was helpess to prevent the opener from the spot in the second.
Wayne Rooney, introduced as a substitute, put the result beyond reasonable doubt when he added a second goal to hand United a two-goal advantage.
Bolton will no doubt feel hard-done-by as a result of the contentious nature of the opener, but on weight of chances, United deserved the win - by hook or by crook.
First Half:
Cristiano Ronaldo made his first Premier League start of the season when Manchester United welcomed Bolton Wanderers to Old Trafford this afternoon.
Wayne Rooney was relegated to the bench as Carlos Tevez and Dimitar Berbatov started up front for the Red Devils.
Kevin Davies was shunted to the right side of a 4-5-1, as Johan Elmander was accommodated as the lone striker for the guests.
Bolton started strongly, with Ricardo Gardner and Kevin Nolan going close with long range strikes early on.
Kevin Davies then bought a corner from Patrice Evra, from which Elmander directed a header over the bar.
The visitors maintained the pressure through the opening stages; United however, managed to get their first meaningful effort of the encounter in the tenth minute through Cristiano Ronaldo, and forced a wasted corner.
The same player went close with a drive three minutes later after a combination between Anderson and Berbatov on the edge of the box, but Bolton held firm.
The hosts gradually found their way on top and ratcheted up the pressure on the Trotters with Jaaskelainen having to save smartly from a Berbatov header on the quarter hour mark.
Park Ji Sung should have put his side in the lead seconds later after Jaaskelainen spilled a Tevez shot. However, the Korean could only fire wide.
Patrice Evra was finding some space down the left flank but his crosses were invariably blocked out by the man-heavy Bolton backline.
Ronaldo went close again on the 25 minute mark with a free-kick from the edge of the area; however, his effort was well fielded by Jaaskelainen.
As Bolton sunk under the weight of United pressure, Anderson delivered a corner for Nemanja Vidic but United’s woes in front of goal continued as the Serbian could only head over.
The visitors threatened to take advantage of United’s poor shooting through Kevin Nolan on the half hour after Vidic’s header found only Garnder who prompted his captain to fire over the bar.
After Ronaldo wasted another free-kick, Anderson tested the impressive Jaaskelainen’s reflexes with a long-range drive that was tipped over.
Untied continued their strong showing as a Berbatov lay-off found Rio Ferdinand whose effort was repelled by the Finn again.
However, the best chance of the half fell to Fabrice Muamba of Wanderers. The midfielder had the goal at his mercy from eight yards but contrived to put the chance off target as the sides went in level.
Second Half:
The guests once again started brightly from the whistle, and Ricardo Gardner going close in the 48th minute. United replied through the menacing Ronaldo, whose low drive struck the post as Jaaskelainen was beaten.
The winger was in fine form, as he won a corner through a shot following a United breakout in the 55th minute.
Gretar Steinsson was to be the hero for Wanderers on the hour; Ronaldo’s drive was goal bound before the Icelandic international put himself in the way.
The game’s true turning point came just moments later with the award of Ronaldo’s penalty. Despite Jlloyd Samuel winning the ball in the box, Ronaldo went down under the slight weight of the challenge and earned a dubious spot-kick. He converted smartly to give his side a debateable lead.
Bolton responded positively initially, with Davie forcing a save from Edwin Van Der Sar as United were forced to keep the back-door shut.
After Ferdinand had a shot blocked down in the box, Sir Alex Ferguson introduced Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes from the bench, and the former had an instant effect.
After Ronaldo’s impudent back-heel, Rooney was left in the clear to cut inside and curl United into a decisive lead.
Despite a brave front, Bolton were left short-changed from this fixture as third United substitute Nani tried desperately to add his name to the score sheet during the closing stages, which would have left the result looking extremely flattering for the hosts.

Manchester United sukses mengalahkan Bolton 2-0 dengan salah satu golnya datang dari penalti Cristiano Ronaldo. Namun, Sir Alex Ferguson justru terkejut timnya diberikan penalti oleh wasit. Alasannya?
Manajer "Setan Merah" itu mengungkapkan bahwa ia sekilas melihat kaki bek Bolton, Jlloyd Samuel, lebih dulu mengenai bola sebelum membentur kaki Ronaldo. Jika akhirnya wasit Rob Styles memberikan timnya hadiah penalti, maka ia menyebut bahwa itu adalah sebuah keputusan yang mengejutkan.

TORPEDO TORRES DISTROY EVERTON
It is often billed as the 'Friendly Derby' due to the amicable relationship enjoyed by fans of both clubs. For instance, it is not unusual to have one Liverpudlian family containing both red and blue blood but there will be no love lost on the pitch as feisty encounters are almost a guarantee - Everton and Liverpool fixtures produce the most red cards out of all Premier League encounters.
David Moyes named a five man midfield that he hoped would stifle any potential attacking threat from a Torres/ Keane partnership with Gerrard, Kuyt, and Riera supplying. Phil Neville lined up ahead of a back four consisting of Lescott - who was a consistent (and goalscoring) defender last term - with Yobo, Jagielka, and Hibbert.
Liverpool's £45million strike force had not bore fruit prior to kick off as the latest of Rafa Benitez's high profile signings, Robbie Keane, was yet to open his goal account. After having one perfectly good goal ruled out against Stoke City last weekend, Steven Gerrard was still chasing his 100th Liverpool goal and many fans, including Evertonians, believed it was pre-written before the game that he would find the net at lunchtime.
First Half
As the noon sun beat down on the most successful footballing city in England, two tribes strutted out to a loud chorus of cheers, jeers, and an aura reeking of a rapturous expectancy.
Hope; apprehension; concern; and excitement... many emotions surrounded Goodison Park and the unique atmosphere effectively translated to the pitch as nerves matured into passion and some early challenges were waved on but referee Mike Riley issued a cautionary booking to Marouane Fellaini on the tenth minute for a challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa.
The decision was perhaps a harsh punishment, but Rafa Benitez and his side will know all about Fellaini after the former Standard Liege midfielder helped maintain a two-legged stalemate between the Reds and Liege during this season's third qualifying round in the Champions League. Liverpool sunk Liege though with a late Dirk Kuyt struck extra time winner.
Some weak shots and half-chances were proffered to each sides as Phil Jagielka denied Fernando Torres a shot on goal as the latter almost got in front of the former. For the Blues Mikel Arteta could have broken the deadlock but his soft shot was easily collected by Pepe Reina.
Liverpool enjoyed a greater share of the possession in the first half of the opening 45 but it was Everton who had an opportune moment to find the net had it not been for a mammoth interception from Martin Skrtel two inches off the line to frustrate Fellaini. Reina failed to collect a heighty ball and Fellaini was through but ended up shooting straight at Skrtel's thigh.
The typical derby ambience began to fizzle out when the clock edged closer to the half-way mark and the game lost it's early zazz. Riley should shoulder some of the blame as his whistle to mouth action was unnecessarily relentless: an average of at least one foul every two minutes resulted in a game that never had a chance to build on it's early flow and as such, the half time team talks would be crucial if either side were to return with the intention of claiming all three points.
Half Time
Benitez will be keen to stress on his Reds the importance of the final ball as Torres; Keane; and Riera have all been found guilty of sloppy play in the last third of the pitch and have squandered both chances and possession. His defence is also a little suspect after Tim Cahill was set up from a corner kick but lucky for Liverpool the Austalian international couldn't get the ball out from his feet.
David Moyes on the other hand will be insistent on persistence, coupled with ordering his side to make their chances count. Tim Cahill was a handful, with a penalty shout just before time being judged as fair, but so far their half-chances would need to become full chances if they are to achieve anything from the second half.
Second Half
Within minutes the referee's yellow gets more of a breather as it is shown to Yakubu, and then Torres. The Nigerian striker was booked for a dive in the box under a challenge from the Slovakian international Skrtel, and the Spaniard was cautioned for complaining after a free kick was awarded against him.
On the 50th minute Torres was penetrating the Blue box after a sharp turn and got his shot away but it was comfortably saved by Tim Howard. The European Championship winner was then duly jeered by the home support.
The stalemate was broken though ten minutes after the interval when Robbie Keane sent an outstanding cross into the danger area with his left foot. Dirk Kuyt charged into the box and dragged Joleon Lescott with him leaving an unmarked Torres to strike the ball first time with his left and found space between Howard's legs: a well-worked, and perfectly executed goal.
There is an old saying that a side is at their most vulnerable after they have scored, but the opposite is true for today as Liverpool counter-attacked when Everton were vulnerable. Jagielka slid in to take the ball away from Dirk Kuyt, but in so doing he pushed the ball onto Torres' path who did not need a second invitation to again strike first time and left Howard no chance as the away side doubled their lead.
Five minutes later Liverpool could have had a third, and then a fourth, but the score stayed at two as the first shot was deemed to have already gone out of play before it hit the net, then the second was pulled back because of a shirt pull in the area.
The goals have seen Torres' confidence shoot skyward as he starts to look like the potent force we had grown accustomed to seeing last season. With twenty minutes left to play he was zipping around the pitch, playing with pace, and taking defenders on.
In keeping with the Merseyside tradition an early bath was awarded to Tim Cahill on the 80th minute. Riley though will have to take a long, hard look at himself after the game and ask whether a challenge that that he deemed worthy of a straight red, was in fact a sending off offence.
Two minutes before full time Louis Saha rifled in a bullet left-footed drive that whiskered Reina's right hand post. The fixture finished two goals to the good for the away team though and Liverpool leap-frogged Arsenal to go top of the table, perhaps albeit temporarily as the Gunners host Premier League new boys Hull City in just under three hours.
Despite only being at Liverpool for one season, Fernando Torres is now the club's current joint top goalscorer in Merseyside derbies. He shares the honour with Steven Gerrard, both of whom are on three goals and counting.
TORPEDO TORRES
David Moyes membanjiri lini pertahanan Everton dengan lima pemain. Tujuannya adalah menahan laju serang Fernando Torres atau Robbie Keane yang akan ditandemkan dengan Steven Gerrard dan Kuyt serta supply bola dari Riera. Phill Neville diposisikan sedikit maju dari empat pemain lainnya yang terdiri dari Joleon Lescott, Joseph Obo, Phil Jagielka, dan Tony Hibbert.
Sayang, usaha tersebut hanya bertahan pada babak pertama dimana berakhir dengan hasil kaca mata, alias 0-0. Meski ball possession Liverpool secara keseluruhan lebih unggul, 60 persen berbanding 40 persen, tidak satu gol pun tercipta pada 45 menit pertama.
Peluang pertama Liverpool datang tepat pada menit ke-17. Hasil kerja sama apik antara Torres dan Riera masih bisa dibendung oleh kiper Everton.
Kebekuan pecah pada menit ke-59 melalui tendangan ringan kaki Torres, hasil umpan cantik Robbie Keane. Tidak butuh waktu lama, tiga menit berselang dari gol pertama, Torres kembali tak terbendung dengan merobek jala gawang Everton untuk kedua kalinya, 2-0 untuk Liverpool.
Hasil tersebut bertahan hingga babak kedua berakhir. Salomon Kalou's 80th-minute goal rescued a point for Chelsea FC against champions Manchester United FC at Stamford Bridge, the 1-1 draw extending the London club's unbeaten Premier League home record to 85 games.
Park opener
The result moved the hosts into second place in the standings while United stay 15th after taking five points from their opening four matches. The away team started brightly in London and after Petr Čech had denied Rio Ferdinand from close range, they took the lead in the 18th minute following a flowing move involving Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and Patrice Evra. The French full-back cut the ball back to Berbatov and although Čech parried his effort, Ji-Sung Park was on hand to tap in the rebound.
Late equaliser
Going behind spurred Chelsea into life but despite dominating possession for the rest of the first half, they did not truly test goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, who had come on to replace the injured Edwin van der Sar. The hosts brought on Didier Drogba after the interval while Sir Alex Ferguson introduced Cristiano Ronaldo. Nicolas Anelka failed to convert a chance from five metres but Chelsea did find an equaliser when John Mikel Obi's floated free-kick was headed in by Kalou.

Manchester United mungkin bisa saja mengalahkan Chelsea di Stamford Bridge malam ini. Namun, semua itu buyar ketika Salomon Kalou mencetak gol 10 menit menjelang akhir laga.
MU tampil di Stamford Bridge dengan bayang-bayang start buruk mereka di Premier League. Sepekan sebelumnya, mereka takluk di tangan Liverpool 1-2. Namun, penampilan mereka pada Minggu (21/8/2008) malam WIB, di kandang Chelsea ini tidaklah jelek. Mereka berani tampil menyerang dengan beberapa kali mengancam gawang The Blues.
Sementara Chelsea sendiri juga tampil tak kalah apik. Dari statistik di akhir laga tercatat mereka sukses memenangi penguasaan bola dengan 60:40. Ketika tertinggal lewat gol Park Ji-Sung di menit 18, mereka tak panik. Dan hasilnya mereka bisa menyamakan kedudukan di menit 80 melalui sundulan Kalou.
The Red Devils boleh jadi kecewa dengan hasil ini karena kemenangan yang di depan mata akhirnya sirna. Terakhir kali mereka meraih kemenangan di musim ini adalah pada 25 Agustus ketika menundukkan Portsmouth 1-0. Sementara bagi Chelsea, hasil ini berarti mereka belum terkalahkan pada 85 pertandingan di Stamford Bridge.
Jalannya Pertandingan
7 menit laga berjalan Chelsea nyaris kebobolan. Petr Cech yang meninggalkan gawang untuk menghalau pergerakan Wayne Rooney mungkin tak akan menyangka bola sepakannya jatuh di kaki Dimitar Berbatov yang langsung menembalikannya ke Rooney. Striker Inggis itu lantas langsung me-lob bola ke arah gawang yang kosong. Sial baginya, bola jatuh tipis di sisi kiri gawang, bukan di dalam jaring.
Semenit kemudian Chelsea membalas melalui Joe Cole. Memanfaatkan kesalahan Patrice Evra yang gagal menjaganya dengan baik, ia melepaskan tembakan ketika tinggal berhadapan dengan Edwin van Der Sar. Gol? Tidak, karena sepakannya melebar di sisi kiri gawang MU.
Pada menit 16, MU kembali mengancam gawang Chelsea. Berawal dari operan-operan antara Berbatov dan Rooney, bola kemudian diterima Rio Ferdinand yang melakukan overlaping hingga ke kotak penalti The Blues. Ia kemudian langsung melepaskan tembakan first time, namun masih bisa dihalau oleh Cech sehingga hanya menghasilkan sepak pojok.
Gawang Chelsea akhirnya bobol dua menit kemudian. Operan Patrice Evra dari sisi kiri berhasil dilanjutkan oleh Berbatov dengan sebuah sepakan, namun masih bisa dtepis oleh Cech. Park Ji-Sung yang berada di depan gawang langsung mencecar bola tersebut dan menceploskan bola. 1-0 untuk MU.
Setelahnya gol tersebut, Chelsea langsung meningkatkan tempo permainan. Salah satu usaha mereka untuk membobol gawang MU terjadi di menit 39. Bola sepakan Frank Lampard dari luar kotak penalti masih bisa ditepis Tomasz Kuszczak. Bola muntah kemudian memang dicecar oleh pemain Chelsea lainnya, tetapi Evra lebih cepat untuk membuang bola sehingga hanya menghasilkan tendangan penjuru.
Memasuki babak kedua, Pelatih Luiz Felipe Scolari mengganti Florent Malouda dengan Didier Drogba untuk menajamkan serangan.
Strategi ini berjalan cukup baik mengingat Chelsea menjadi lebih sering melepaskan umpan silang, dengan Drogba sebagai targetnya, ke pertahanan MU.
MU pun melakukan hal yang sama. Pada menit 54, Sir Alex Ferguson memasukkan Cristiano Ronaldo menggantikan Paul Scholes. Ini merupakan penampilan perdana CR7 di Premier League. Baru dua menit masuk lapangan, gelandang asal Portugal itu langsung memiliki peluang. Ia melepaskan tendangan kaki kiri dari luar kotak penalti, tetapi masih jauh melebar dari sasaran.
Chelsea nyaris menyamakan kedudukan pada menit 65. Joe Cole yang lolos dari kawalan pertahanan MU berhasil menerima umpan jauh Michael Ballack. Ia pun tinggal berhadapan dengan Kuszczak. Sial baginya, tendangan kaki kirinya masih bisa ditepis oleh kiper asal Polandia itu.
The Blues kembali memperoleh peluang pada menit 71. Umpan silang Jose Bosingwa di sisi kanan diteruskan dengan sentuhan kaki kanan oleh Nicolas Anelka. Namun, bukannya mengarah ke gawang, bola malah menyamping di sisi gawang.
Gol yang ditunggu-tunggu pendukung Chelsea akhirnya lahir pada menit 80. Berawal dari pelanggaran Rooney, wasit kemudian memberikan tendangan bebas bagi "Si Biru". Eksekusi yang dilakukan John Obi Mikel berhasil diteruskan Salomon Kalou menjadi sebuah gol. Kedudukan berubah 1-1. Skor tersebut pun bertahan hingga pertandingan berakhir.

Duo Italiano menangkan West Ham !
Debut manis dicatatkan Gianfranco Zola bersama West Ham United. Menjamu Newcastle United di Upton Park, Sabtu (20/9/2008), The Hammers memetik kemenangan meyakinkan dengan skor 3-1.
Setelah resmi mengontrak Zola pada 11 September lalu, West Ham sesungguhnya sudah menjalani satu pertandingan dan kalah atas West Bromwich Albion. Namun saat itu pria berkebangsaan Italia itu sama sekali belum memulai tugasnya sebagai pelatih.
Adalah pertandingan kandang menjamu Newcastle yang menjadi penanda awal kerja mantan pemain Chelsea itu. Dan hasilnya sangatlah memuaskan karena kemenangan langsung diberikan oleh Zola.
Tambahan tiga poin mengantar West Ham United naik ke posisi empat klasemen Premiership dengan poin sembilan. Sementara Newcastle yang dalam beberapa pekan ke belakang mengalami masalah internal kini terpuruk di posisi 19.
West Ham yang dalam sembilan laga terakhir dengan Newcastle tak pernah memetik kemenangan memulai laga dengan sangat meyakinkan. Delapan menit pertandingan dimulai mereka langsung membuka keunggulan.
David Di Michele membuka pesta publik Upton Park saat dia menusuk dari sisi kanan dan memperdaya dua pemain bertahan Newcastle. Pada akhirnya gol striker pinjaman dari Torino banyak terbantu bek lawan karena tendangannya sempat membentur kaki yang membuat bola melambung dan Shay Given tak bisa berbuat banyak menyelamatkan gawangnya.

Di awal babak kedua Michael Owen nyaris memperkecil ketinggalan timnya saat tandukannya yang terlalu lemah dengan mudah diantisipasi kiper Green. Setelah peluang tersebut The Magpies justru kebobolan untuk kali ketiga dengan nama Di Michele juga berperan sebagai pemberi umpan.
Lolos dari kawalan bek Newcastle di sisi kanan, Di Michele melepaskan umpan di muka gawang yang dengan mudah diarahkan ke gawang oleh Matthew Etherington untuk menjebol jala The Magpies. 3-0 The Hammers unggul.
Empatbelas menit setelah gol ketiga tuan rumah, Newcastle akhirnya bisa mencetak gol pertamanya. Memanfaatkan Lucas Neill yang kehilangan keseimbangan, sebuah tendangan melengkung dari striker internasional Inggris itu merobek jala tuan rumah.
Luis Boa Morte yang masuk di penghujung pertandingan memiliki dua peluang lain yang bis membuat kemenangan West Ham jadi lebih menjanjikan. Namun hingga akhir laga skor 3-1 untuk keunggulan tuan rumah tidak berubah.

Gara-gara gol Steven Gerrard dianulir wasit, Liverpool cuma bermain imbang dengan klub promosi Stoke City. Merasa gol tersebut sah, Rafael Benitez melontarkan kecaman pada wasit.
Laga di Anfield baru berjalan dua menit saat tendangan bebas Steven Gerrard menerobos masuk ke gawang Stoke. Namun gol tersebut dibatalkan wasit Andre Marriner yang menilai Dirk Kuyt - yang berdiri di tiang jauh - dalam posisi offside saat sang kapten mengeksekusi tendangan bebas.
Dalam tayangan lambat terlihat keputusan Andre Marriner terbukti tidak tepat karena pesepakbola Belanda itu masih on side saat bola disepak. Kuyt pun tidak dalam posisi offside saat berusaha membelokkan bola Gerrard - yang sesungguhnya sudah masuk ke gawang.
"Penganuliran gol tersebut adalah keputusan vital. Jika gol tersebut disahkan, maka ini akan menjadi pertandingan yang lebih terbuka," ungkap Rafa usai pertandingan seperti diberitakan Goal.
Yang makin membuat Rafa kesal adalah fakta bahwa wasit membuat keputusan tanpa berkonsultasi dengan hakim garis di pinggir lapangan. Padahal dalam penentuan posisi offside hakim garis jelas punya sudut pandang yang lebih baik.
"Saya tak tahu kenapa gol tersebut dibatalkan. Wasit mengatakan pada Jamie Carragher kalau keputusan membatalkan gol tersebut adalah keputusan dia, bukan hakim garis. Itu adalah kesalahan besar. Tak ada yang tahu kenapa dibatalkan," sambung Rafa.
Di samping kekecewaannya pada wasit, pria Spanyol itu juga menyebut ketidakmampuan lini depannya mentransformasikan peluang menjadi gol sebagai sebab laga berakir dengan 0-0.
"Pemain sudah bekerja keras. Mereka sudah mencoba segala hal, tapi mungkin kami masih butuh seikit kemampuan di paruh ketiga pertandingan untuk memaksimkan ball possession dan jumlah tembakan yang kami lancarkan

Arsenal menyodok ke puncak klasemen sementara Liga Primer Inggris, setelah susah payah mengalahkan Bolton Wanderers 3-1 di Reebok Stadium, Sabtu (20/9).
Tiga gol The Gunners dibuat Emmanuel Eboue, Niclas Bendtner , dan Denilson. Bolton unggul lebih dulu lewat Kevin Davies.
The Gunners memimpin dengan 12 angka dari empat pertandingan. Liverpool, yang berpotensi mengambil alih pimpinan klasemen sementara, di luar dugaan ditahan Stoke City tanpa gol di Anfield.
Striker Kevin Davies membuat tuan rumah Bolton unggul lebih dulu menit ke-14. Davies melompat mendahului Kolo Toure, untuk menyambut umpan sepak pojok Joey O'Brien. Di pinggir lapangan, pelatih Arsene Wenger menyilangkan tangan sebagai pertanda sesuatu yang tidak disukainya.
Keunggulan tuan rumah hanya bertahan 12 menit. Emmanuel Eboue menyambut umpan Nicklas Bendtner untuk menjebol gawang tuan rumah menit ke-26. Namun dalam tayang ulang terlihat Eboue telah berada pada posisi offside, ketika Bendtner melepas bola ke arahnya.
The Gunners membalikan keadaan hanya satu menit sejak gol berbau offside Eboue. Kali ini giliran Bendtner, yang memanfaatkan umpan silang pendek Denilson menjadi gol. Berbeda dengan gol pertama, gol kedua Arsenal relatif bersih dan hasil permainan passing brilian.
Di babak kedua, Gael Clichy dilarikan ke rumah sakit akibat diganjal Kevin Davis ketika babak pertama memasuki injury time. Wenger menunjuk Johan Djourou sebagai gantinya. Tak lama kemudian Jussi Jaskelainen melakukan penyelamatan brilian dengan satu tangan, untuk menepis tembakan Alexander Song Billong.
Emmanuel Adebayor memiliki satu peluang mencetak gol, tapi sundulannya terlalu lemah. Bolton juga memiliki satu peluang, ketika Mustapha Riga -- yang masuk menggantikan Ebi Smoralek -- membuat Manuel Almunia penyelematan dengan kaki.
The Gunners tertekan hebat ketika laga memasuki menit ke-70. Satu umpan manis Davies berhasil ditanduk kapten Kevin Nolan, tapi bola masih menerpa mistar. Situasi ini membuat Wenger ketar-ketir, dan berteriak-teriak dari pinggir lapangan.
Wenger berusaha mengatasi situasi, dengan mempertajam lini depan. Ia menarik Nicklas Bendtner, dan memasukkan Theo Walcott -- pencetak hat-trick ketika Inggris mengalahkan Kroasia dalam laga kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2010 -- menit ke-73.
Lima menit setelah memasuki lapangan, Walcott nyaris memperbesar keunggulan The Gunners. Ia menembak dari sudut sempit, sama seperti ketika mencetak gol ke gawang Kroasia.
Bolton terus menekan untuk memaksakan hasil imbang, dan terhindar dari kekalahan. Steinsson memiliki satu peluang sempurna untuk menyamakan kedudukan di menit ke-83, ketika dengan bebas melakukan sundulan keras. Ia tidak beruntung, bola tandukannya masih menerpa mistar.
Satu menit kemudian giliran Ricardo Vaz Te. Ia sudah berhadapan dengan gawang kosong, karena penjaga gawang Manuel Almunia melakukan keputusan bodoh, dengan meninggalkan gawangnya. Namun Almunia tidak bisa melakukannya.
Keasyikan menyerang membuat Bolton lupa pertahannya. Walcott memanfaatkan dengan baik. Ia berlari kencang ke jatung pertahanan lawan, dan mengumpan ke Adebayor. Striker asal Republik Togo itu tidak langsung menembak, tapi mengumpan ke Denilson. Pemain asal Brasil itu menaklukan Jaaskelainen menit ke-87.
